BIOGRAPHY

At University College London, where he pursued his medical education, Professor Angus Dalgleish earned both a BSc in anatomy and an MBBS. He is a Fellow of The Academy of Medical Scientists, The Royal College of Pathologists, and The Royal College of Physicians of the UK and Australia. He worked as a housekeeper in London and Poole after receiving his degree and then served a year in Queensland's flying doctor service. In Brisbane and Sydney, he received additional training in internal medicine and oncology. He started his MD program with Professor Robin Weiss, FRS at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital after becoming interested in how viruses caused cancer. He spent five years working as a clinical scientist at the MRC's Northwick Park clinical research facility before being named to the Foundation Chair in Oncology at St. George's University of London in 1991. His primary research interests have been on the immunology of cancer and the creation of immunotherapies, particularly for the treatment of melanoma. He now serves on eight editorial boards, has written or co-written more than 70 chapters for medical books, and has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Five medical books co-edited by him. He presently serves on the European Commission Cancer Board and has served on various funding panels.
