Package Description
Total Colectomy
The big bowel is resected during a colectomy. It entails the surgical removal of any portion of the colon, generally in segments. Total colectomy refers to the removal of the whole large intestine, whereas proctocolectomy refers to the removal of the rectum.
A surgical incision will be made in your stomach by your surgeon. Your big intestine will be removed by the surgeon. Your rectum and anus will not be removed. The end of your small intestine will be sewn to your rectum by the surgeon.
If a person's colon condition cannot be cured with drugs alone, a colectomy may be required.Ulcerative colitis, polyposis, severe constipation, colonic dysmotility, or Hirschsprung's disease affecting the whole colon are the most prevalent illnesses of the colon that necessitate this procedure.
