Package Description
Redo AVR:
Aortic valve reoperation accounts for about ten percent of all aortic valve surgeries. Due to the ageing population and the better results of contemporary cardiac surgery, an increasing number of survivors of earlier cardiac surgery are being treated for aortic stenosis. For older or high-risk patients who need reoperation for aortic valve stenosis, transcatheter aortic valve implantation can be a great choice.
Although certain patients, such as those with bioprosthesis degeneration of a tiny valve, still require open reoperations, roughly one-third of primary aortic valve replacements are now performed in a minimally invasive manner. Several facilities' experience with minimally invasive aortic valve surgeries has prompted surgeons to employ minimally invasive methods for aortic valve reoperations as well.
Disease Overview:
Paravalvular regurgitation
A serious and unusual complication linked with the implantation of a cardiac valvular prosthesis is paravalvular regurgitation or leak. It is characterized by an improper connection between the prosthetic structure and heart tissue, resulting in turbulent blood flow with a variety of clinical implications.
Disease Signs and Symptoms:
If you have a bigger leak, you may get symptoms comparable to heart failure, such as anaemia, shortness of breath, edoema, weight gain, and other issues: Breathing problems. Weight growth that was unexpected and quick. Feet and legs are swollen.
Disease Causes:
Patients who have a lot of calcium buildup on the ring surrounding the valve, have had valve replacements numerous times, or are being treated for endocarditis have a greater risk of having a paravalvular leak.
A leak induced by a gap left between normal heart tissue and the valve replacement from a prior transcatheter aortic or mitral valve replacement is known as paravalvular regurgitation.
Disease Diagnosis:
- echocardiogram
- cardiac CT
- cardiac catheterization
Disease Treatment:
Trans-catheter paravalvular leak closure is typically the chosen therapeutic choice assuming that the valve leaflets are functioning appropriately. This entails inserting a catheter into the groyne or chest and advancing it across the defect to deliver one or more plugs to seal the leak.
