DIAGNOSTICS Both Eye Color Vision testing Ishihara Chart

The Ishihara test is the first of a family of effective colour vision tests known as pseudo-isochromatic plates. It is a colour perception test for red-green colour deficits. It was called after its creator, Shinobu Ishihara, a University of Tokyo professor who initially published his experiments in 1917.

Disease Overview:

Red-green color blindness

The most frequent kind of colour deficit is red-green colour blindness. This problem, also known as deuteranopia, is most likely a congenital one, meaning you were born with it. You may have trouble seeing different shades of red, green, and yellow if you have this form of colour blindness.

Disease Signs and Symptoms:

  • Enhanced olfactory perception.
  • Night vision has been improved.
  • Sensitivity to bright light.
  • Reading colourful work pages is difficult.
  • When colouring, your attention span is reduced.
  • Using just the wrong colours to colour.
  • When viewing red on green or green on red backgrounds, you may get headaches or eye strain.

Disease Causes:

Red-green color blindness is typically caused by genetic mutations. Color blindness occurs when there are genetic deficiencies with one or more of the three cones: L, M, and S. Red-green color vision deficiencies occur when there are defects with the OPN1LW (red pigment cone) and OPN1MW (green pigment) genes.

Disease Diagnosis:

The Ishihara test is still the most common way of determining whether you have a red-green or blue-yellow colour deficit. A set of Ishihara colour plates will be shown to you or your child. For example, each plate includes a red or green number buried among a pattern of dots to test for red-green colour blindness.

Disease Treatment:

There is currently no cure or treatment option for deuteranopia. Corrective contact lenses or spectacles, on the other hand, may be able to aid those with red-green colour blindness. These are tinted lenses or filters that put over your spectacles and can improve your vision of reds and greens.
