CORNEAL AND OCULAR SURFACE PROCEDURES-Intralase (Femtosecond laser) application:

Imaging capability, extended infrared wavelengths, and high reptition rates are all useful qualities of femtosecond lasers. Laser cataract surgery, treatment of tractional vitreous attachments, reversing presbyopia, refractive index shaping, CXL, and reversing cataract are all possible applications.

Cataract removal and LASIK (Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) surgery are both common uses for this surgical treatment. The Femto Laser can also be used to perform a blade-free laser vision correction surgery that doesn't require a corneal flap. SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is the name given to this surgery. The femtosecond (FS) laser has a wavelength of 1053nm and is an infrared laser. The FS laser, like the Nd: YAG laser, functions by photodisrupting or photoionizing optically transparent tissue like the cornea.

Disease Overview:

Vision correction

One of numerous approaches for improving blurred vision caused by refractive error is vision correction. To repair a refractive defect, some people require vision correction. When the eye does not bend light appropriately (refract) when it enters the eye, a refractive error develops, resulting in a fuzzy image.

Disease Signs and Symptoms:

  • Blurry vision, particularly when looking at objects up close.
  • Reading is difficult.
  • I have a dull ache in my eye.
  • Eyestrain.
  • Headaches.
  • Squinting.

Disease Causes:

Because of its small focal length, the eye-lens has a high converging power, or Too long of an eyeball or a bulging cornea.

Hereditary or as a result of uncontrolled diabetes or untreated cataracts.

Disease Diagnosis:

A basic eye exam, which includes a refraction evaluation and an eye health check, can detect nearsightedness.

If you have visual difficulties like nearsightedness or farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia, a refraction test can tell you. To evaluate your distant and close-up vision, your doctor may use a variety of devices and ask you to gaze through numerous lenses.

For the eye health checkup, your eye doctor will most likely place drops in your eyes to dilate your pupils. For a few hours following the exam, your eyes may become more light sensitive. Dilation allows your doctor to see more of what's going on within your eyes.

Disease Treatment:

The standard objective of nearsightedness treatment is to enhance vision by focusing light on the retina with corrective lenses or refractive surgery. Nearsightedness management also requires frequent eye exams to check for consequences such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears and detachments, and damage to central retinal regions.

Contact lenses with a prescription

Corrective lenses counteract the increased curvature of your cornea or the increased length of your eye to treat nearsightedness. Prescription lenses come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Eyeglasses. This is a simple and risk-free technique to improve eyesight if you have nearsightedness. Single vision, bifocals, trifocals, and progressive multifocals are among the many types of eyeglass lenses available.

Contact lenses are a type of contact lens that is used on These contact lenses are placed directly on your eyes.

Soft and stiff, gas permeable, spherical, toric, and multifocal designs are among the materials and designs offered. Inquire with your eye doctor about the benefits and drawbacks of contact lenses and which option is best for you.

Refractive surgery is a procedure that is used to correct vision problems. Refractive surgery eliminates the need for contact lenses and glasses. Your eye surgeon reshapes the cornea using a laser beam, resulting in a lower nearsighted prescription. Even after surgery, you may require the usage of spectacles on occasion.

In situ keratomileusis with laser assistance (LASIK). Your eye surgeon will create a thin, hinged flap in your cornea during this surgery. The inner layers of your cornea are then removed with a laser to flatten its domed form.

LASIK surgery typically has a faster recovery time and produces less discomfort than other corneal operations.

Subepithelial keratectomy with laser assistance (LASEK). Only in the cornea's outer protective coating can the surgeon form an ultra-thin flap (epithelium). He or she next reshapes the cornea's outer layers with a laser, flattening the curvature, and restores the epithelium.

Keratectomy with photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). This surgery is identical to LASEK, however the surgeon removes the epithelium entirely before reshaping the cornea with a laser. The epithelium is not replaced; instead, it will regrow spontaneously, according to the altered shape of your cornea.

Because this surgery is not reversible, speak with your doctor about the probable negative effects. It is not advisable to have refractive surgery until your nearsighted prescription has stabilised.
