Package Description
Breast reconstruction surgery:
After a mastectomy, breast reconstruction surgery recreates the breasts. Breast reconstruction comes in a variety of forms. Implants are used in some procedures. Some construct a breast using your body's tissue (the abdomen, for example). Breast reconstruction can take place immediately following a mastectomy or years later. Several procedures spread over several months can be required.
Disease Overview:
Reconstruction of the breast occurs following a mastectomy or lumpectomy. Before having breast reconstruction surgery, you might also require chemotherapy or radiation if you have breast cancer.
Disease Causes:
In women, breast enlargement is a common condition. It could be brought on by the overgrowth of glandular tissue during puberty, the outcome of weight increase, or the natural aging-related fat deposition of breast tissue.
Diagnosis for Disease:
Atypical hyperplasia is typically detected following a biopsy to assess a questionable area seen on an imaging test, such as an ultrasound or mammography, or during a clinical breast check.
Your doctor might suggest surgery to remove a larger sample of tissue in order to examine atypical hyperplasia in more detail and check for breast cancer. A surgical biopsy (wide local excision or lumpectomy) may be necessary if atypical hyperplasia is diagnosed in order to remove all of the diseased tissue. Examining the larger specimen, the pathologist searches for indications of invasive or in situ malignancy.
Disease Treatment:
Following a mastectomy, which removes your breasts to treat or prevent breast cancer, breast reconstruction is a surgical treatment that gives your breasts their natural shape again. Creating a new breast mound during breast reconstruction with flap surgery entails moving a portion of tissue from another part of your body, usually your belly.
A plastic surgeon performs this intricate process for breast rebuilding using flap surgery. Although it occasionally can be completed as a separate treatment later, the majority of breast reconstruction using your body's own tissue can be completed at the time of your mastectomy (immediate reconstruction) (delayed reconstruction).
