BIOGRAPHY

Consultant orthopedic surgeon Professor Richard Field specializes in the treatment of hip-related conditions. At St. George's University of London, he teaches orthopaedic surgery. At the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), where he served as the Director of Research from 2004 to 2021, he conducts his NHS clinical practice. He serves as the Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery's Chief Editor. He conducts his own practice at SWLEOC and occasionally at Chelsea's Lister Hospital. Since 2008, Professor Field has operated on more than 2000 patients using the Direct Anterior (minimally invasive, muscle sparing) Hip Replacement technique, making him the most skilled surgeon in the UK. He makes the right use of both the conventional longitudinal and the less noticeable bikini incisions. He has worked with surgeons in more than ten different nations while lecturing globally. He is a forerunner in arthroscopic hip surgery and served as the ISHA's (International Society for Hip Arthroscopy) president in 2017. Since 1983, Professor Field has been actively involved in the creation and assessment of fresh implant designs. In addition to some of the newest hip resurfacing designs, he is now doing clinical trials on short femoral stem implants. When necessary, he is at ease employing robotic surgery to aid in surgery as well as patient-specific custom cutting blocks to achieve ideal component alignment.
